It's Only a Movie! introduces electronic instruments (and ceramic destruction on "Doin' the Dishes")...

... to remind listeners of the band's actual time frame, but also includes appropriately dated covers: Henry Mancini's "Banzai Pipeline" and Booker T's "Jelly Bread."

The Raybeats "It's Only a Movie" 1983Although most folks seem to prefer "Guitar Beat", this is my favorite Ryabeats recording, primarily for their amazing cover of Link Wray's "Jack the Ripper": they maintain its primitive power while ratcheting-up the intensity ten-fold, and then take it to another place with the addition of beautiful feedback. An absolute must-hear. If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, this would be the one. - By Man-In-The-Boat "mksonic50"

traxfromwax:
1. Jack the Ripper 2. Banzai Pipeline 3. Instant Twist 4. The Sad Little Caper 5. Doin' the Dishes 6. The Big Country 7. Jelly Bread 8. Buddy Lonesome 9. Soul Beat/Intoxica 10. It's Only a Movie

Brandy James is the preeminent tastemaker of his (or her) generation. Sexual ambiguity aside, where Brandy goes, so goeth the hepsters.

Thank you for this entry, Brandy. I eagerly anticipate your next posting.

Thank you Mr. Fraud for those kind words.

ryp's Twilight Zone is certainly a hepsters' paradise, with grooves so thick they put my grandma's molasses butter cream pies to shame.

Bring on the slather. . .

Brandy :-)
